A healthy mind and a fit body contribute greatly in shaping the golden future of a child. Unless the child is made to practice mental exercises in addition to physical exercises as he grows up, he would eventually experience problems such as mental numbness, forgetfulness, loss of concentration, or a whole lot of serious mental disorders like Alzheimer’s, or dementia as he grows old. A very popular game such as Chess greatly aids in developing the muscles of the brain. Often known as a game for the intellectually gifted, chess is the best sport to exercise the most important organ in our body: the brain.
Keeping in mind the benefits of this game, Staford School conducted its first Inter House Chess Competition for the students of classes IV to IX, under the guidance of Mr. Vijay Pratap Singh, the sports incharge. The participants were divided into two groups on the basis of their age group i.e Group A- students of classes IV to VI and Group B- students of classes VII to IX.
The competition witnessed enthusiasm and a lot of sportsmanship. Emerald House stood first in the competition followed by Amber and Garnet Houses respectively.
