Visual Basic is a third-generation event-driven programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft. Microsoft intended Visual Basic to be relatively easy to learn and use. Visual Basic was derived from BASIC, a user-friendly programming language designed for beginners, and it enables the rapid application development (RAD) of graphical user interface (GUI) applications.
To give the students an idea of the actual programming process, a programming competition was held for the students of class VIII. Before the actual event, the students had to perform all the steps of software development cycle which were as follows.
- Forming project creation teams, which comprise of 2 to 3 members.
- Preparing a synopsis of the project on the basis of the objectives and tasks assigned to the team.
- Developing the software after the approval of the synopsis.
- Presenting the software and its important features before the audience and answer all the questions put up regarding the working of the software.
Evaluation was done based on implementation of the code and Viva. Each participant was appreciated and the winners were awarded certificates for their good performances.
