General Knowledge is important as it increases our knowledge and general awareness. This Friday, it was time to test this knowledge area of the Stafordians in an Inter-House G.K. Quiz Competition for classes 4,5, and 6. Staford invited the Pearson group to quiz our students in this competition organized on 20th September 2013. The popular Radio Jockey from Radio Mirchi, Vipul, was the Quizmaster for the day who set the ball rolling with a lot of pep talk.
The contest was among the four houses- Amber, Garnet, Emerald and Sapphire. Three members, one each from classes 4, 5, and 6, represented each house. The quizmaster informed each of the teams about the rules of the competition. There were three rounds with two questions for each of the teams and also, questions for the audience.
The first round began with simpler questions and answer-choices and had all the teams with equal scores. As the quiz progressed to the next level, the questions became tougher and had no answer choices or hints to help students guess the answers. By the end of the first round Garnet, Amber, and Emerald were at 20 and Sapphire at 10. The second round was a subject based round. Subjects were allotted to teams through a draw of lots. Amber house was grilled with questions on Sports, Garnet got English, Emerald got Science, and Sapphire got tested on Computers. Garnet and Amber were leading at the end of the second round. The third round was a challenging audio-visual round, where students wracked their brains to answer tricky questions on identifying the voices, lyricists, title tracks, and source of the audio etcetera. The visual round was easy for the Stafordians and they breezed through it, successfully identifying objects in the images or questions related to it. This round saw Garnet, Emerald and Amber at 50 each with Sapphire following suit at 30.
The last round was the Super Jackpot where each team was given an opportunity to either double or lose the scores of that round. Each team got to answer a question which, if answered correctly would fetch them 10 points with the option to answer a bonus question. However, there was a catch here. If the second question was answered correctly they would double their score; but, if they answered incorrectly, they would lose all the points earned in that round. Each of the teams braved through the first question but lost out on the second question.
A last and final round of elimination decided the winners. Garnet emerged the winner, with Amber close on its heels, and Emerald at the third position. The winners were awarded prizes by the Pearson team, which were given away by the Principal.
The highlight of the event was the active and enthusiastic participation of the students- not just of the participants, but of the audience too, who had a fair chance at answering questions and winning prizes in the questions for audience. The students were super excited and had great fun answering questions. This was a first of its kind experience for them, when people from outside the school tested their general knowledge and went away impressed with their enthusiasm, knowledge, and discipline. Vipul, the quiz master commended the school’s infrastructure, its facilities and the student’s intelligent and active participation in the quiz. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the headmistress.
