Yoga and mindfulness offer psychological benefits for children along with improving focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance and classroom behavior. It serves as an effective way to reduce anxiety and stress in them. With an aim to provide a healthy and constructive atmosphere to children, Staford School integrated yoga and mindfulness into physical education programs or classroom curriculums. Various yoga aasanas like Surya Namaskar, Balasana, Vajra asana, Trikon asana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Halasana, Bhujang asana, Pavanmukta asana etc. were taught to the students to build confidence and strength as well as mind-body coordination.
The students understood the importance of yoga in developing a strong mind and a healthy body. They also found that the effects of yoga go beyond physical fitness and also allow kids to build confidence and awareness beyond the classroom.
