19 Sep 2014

Information technology (IT) has become a vital and integral part of every business plan. From multi-national corporations who maintain mainframe systems and databases to small businesses that own a single computer, IT plays a major role. The field of information technology is growing at a very fast pace due to the omnipresent use of computers in our life. In order to create awareness about the latest developments in this field, Staford School celebrated the IT Week from 15th September to 19th September. During the entire week, we had various activities and competitions for our young Stafordians.

On the first day of the IT Week (i.e 15th September), we had the Inter House presentation competition for classes 6 and 7. The topics allotted to the different houses were as follows: Amber House –Social Media Networks, Garnet House – Mobile Technologies, Emerald House – E-Commerce and Sapphire House – Ethical Hacking.

Students of all the houses presented their topics exceptionally well and were well versed with the current developments taking place in the field of IT. The queries put forward by the audience were answered brilliantly by our participants. The combined prize winners for the day were Sapphire and Garnet House.

On the second day (i.e. 16th Sept), the Inter House Drawing and Painting Competition for class II was conducted, where the students had to draw a landscape using Paint. The young artists gave beautiful colours to their thoughts and imagination and portrayed the beauty of nature through their paintings.

On Wednesday, 17th Sept, the Inter house IT quiz was conducted for classes 4, 5, 6 and 7. The Students were asked questions related to the field of IT and the current developments taking place in it. All the participants answered the quiz questions wonderfully. Each house performed well but the winner was Sapphire house.

On Thursday, 18th Sept, we had two activities, each for classes I and III. An Inter house Article Writing Competition on the topic “My School” using MS Word was organized for class III, where the students compiled their thoughts and ideas into beautiful words. Their articles manifested their fondness for the school.

The activity to identify the parts of computers through images for class I was also held on the same day. The tiny tots saw a presentation on “Parts of Computers” and then answered the questions related to the content shown in the form of a worksheet. After the activity, the class teachers told them about the functions of the different components of a computer system.

Last but not the least, as the grand finale of the IT Week, we had an Inter House Robotics Football Challenge for classes 5, 6 and 7 on Friday, 19th Sept. Each house had to design a soccer playing robot. The aim of the activity was to score more goals than the opponent in the specified time duration. The Stafordians exhibited a great blend of their thinking and motor skills to defeat their opponents. Their eagerness and enthusiasm had no limits. All the competitors tried their best to score the maximum number of goals, but the winner house was Emerald.

The objective of celebrating this special IT week was to help our students be in pace with the fast moving modern world of technology and understand the importance of this sector in the area of education, business, data management and communication.
