“The spirit of chess is like a daring idea, it may be beaten but it can start a winning game any time.”
Inter house chess competition was held at Staford School, Hardoi road campus. The battle of wits began on Saturday, 20th July, 2019 and came to an end on Monday, 22nd July. Participating houses were : Garnet, Emerald, Sapphire and Amber. A number of keen participants rushed to their respective House Masters to register themselves for the game. Owing to the overwhelming response in all the four houses, the House Masters were given the task to short list their participants and put forth their best team of 4 players.
The matches were sorted out into 4 groups each consisting of 4 players from a house. This gave us a total of 16 participants. The game was played in 2 categories. The first category comprised of classes VI and VII and the second category comprised of classes VIII and IX. Some matches were decided in a short span of time as one player outwitted the other, instantly leaving no room for the opponent to re collect his wrong move, while the others seem to never come to an end as the players were equally matched and tried their level best to defeat one another. After an intense competition between the four houses, the following results were obtained:
In category 1 : Aliya Ashraf (Emerald) & Anany Batham (Emerald) secured the first position
In category 2 : Zeeshan Ahmad Alvi (Emerald) & Adarsh Jaiswal (Emerald) secured the first position.
Overall the emerald house was the winner!!
