Following workshops were conducted in the school:
CLASS 1-2: POWER OF MAGNETS : In this workshop students learnt about magnets and its fundamental properties through a multimedia session. They explored their surroundings to find out the various magnetic and non-magnetic materials. After this they played a game using a pair of magnets to understand attractive and repulsive properties of magnets and took that game home.
CLASS 3-5: LAUNCH TO LEARN: In this workshop students learnt about the motion of a rocket i.e. projectile motion and the forces acting on a projectile. They also learnt that the trajectory of any projectile is a parabolic path and how the range covered by a projectile varies with angle of projection. To understand this they made their own catapults and practically understood the relation between the angle of projection and range. Students verified that the range is maximum when the object is projected at an angle of 45 degree.
CLASS 6-10: SAFE LANDINGS: In this workshop students learnt about the different kinds of landing systems used during space missions and the reason to employ safe landing systems. They then enjoyed making and launching parachutes with the challenge of landing it safely by having the maximum air drag.
CLASS 1-2: LET’S MAKE A ROCKET: In this workshop students learnt about Rocket and its parts and the shape of each part through a multimedia session. They also learnt about the principle of rocketry, by participating in a balloon rocket race. This was followed by making their own air rockets and launching them in a friendly competition.
CLASS 3-5: PATTERNS OUT OF STARS: CONSTELLATIONS: In this workshop students learnt about constellations. They understood the difference between an asterism and a constellation. They heard mythological stories behind some famous constellations. After this they made their own star patterns with toothpicks and clay and wrote an imaginary story about these patterns.
CLASS 6-10: THE MOON-OUR NEIGHBOR: In this workshop students learn about our celestial neighbor- The Moon through a multimedia session. Students learnt about the facts and features of the moon, they also learnt about the various physical features present on the Moon. This was followed by learning about the reason behind the changing phases of the moon and also about Tides and reason behind their occurance. The session was concluded in an activity in which the students made a Moon Phase Viewer to learn and observe the different phases of the moon and how they change daily.
