This Friday, (30th of August 2013) was another fun filled day for the pre-primary section. The tiny tots of Nursery to Class I, had loads of fun while learning a little bit more about their environment, and the rainy season. Today was a day to say hello to Freddie the Frog! Children were introduced to a new creature from the animal kingdom-an amphibian- the frog.
With the rains still lashing the city, it was only appropriate to have a croaking, hopping frog hopping day! Dressed in green the children had fun learning facts about the otherwise neglected amphibian- the toad, or the frog. Not only did the children learn about the creature’s habitat, its color, size, and food, but they also enjoyed hopping like little frogs in a fun filled frog-hop race. For the nursery and kindergarteners it was indeed a task to balance themselves, and to hop and leap like a frog. Their excitement knew no bounds as they learned to leap. With each leap, the thrill and excitement levels leapt and surged higher. Class I too joined the fun and there was much cheerful laughter and gay banter as they little froggies, dressed in green, leapt and croaked.
This simple little event was just one more innovative way to introduce new concepts, words, animal gait, and habitat through a fun-filled activity. As an additional bonus, the children also edged forward in developing sportsmanship and as they learnt to lose and win gracefully.
As with other events, this outdoor activity was also followed with an in-class activity, in which children colored pictures of frogs, did some creative finger printing and revised the information shared earlier, that a frog is an amphibian; that it can live on land as well as in water; and that it does not walk but hops!
Where else could frog hopping be so much fun- but at Staford School!
