Healthy habits for happy smiles
Let’s be honest. We all are fond of eating chocolates, candies, cakes and sweets; so why not will the kids be? These sweetened goodies are part of childhood, and as adults we mustn’t discourage the innocent kids to enjoy the delectable sweets. Educating them on the need of maintaining oral hygiene is more important.
Good dental hygiene should indeed start at an early age. If kids learn how to take care of their teeth, they can continue those good habits into adulthood. To make children follow a healthy routine of oral hygiene, Staford Preschool Chowk conducted an oral dental check-up camp in association with Alina Dental Clinic and Implant Centre on December 27, 2017. Dentists from the institute were present to examine the teeth of children and suggest treatment to whosoever required.
While speaking on the importance of oral hygiene, Dr. Naeem Ahmad, consultant prosthodontist and implantologist opined, “Oral health is the mirror of general health. Every disease first reflects in the oral cavity. Hence, it is often believed that dentists are the first physicians to diagnose serious ailments.” To this Dr. Taseer Bashir, consultant dental surgeon and maxillofacial radiologist, added, “Prevention is always better than cure. Thus emphasis should be laid on proper brushing habits in kids under the guidance of adults.”
Towards the end of the camp, tooth paste tubes and tooth brushes were distributed to all children. They were taught the right way to brush teeth and were advised to eat healthy food. Precautions when children lose their milk teeth were also suggested.
