Gift a book, gift a life
We might be living in a time where computers and the Internet have become the source and means of people’s entertainment and knowledge, but the wonderful world of books is still alive and well. Books are a great educational tool for all; and for preschoolers, books can prove to be a way of paving their path to a successful life ahead. As little as a few months old, they get fascinated by the colours and textures of a book.
Child development starts as soon as they are born and the importance of books in this process is vital. Babies might chew, throw or turn a book around, but this will be the beginning of a long lasting journey to becoming a successful reader.
With an aim to encourage parents to gift books to children, Staford Preschool in association with Scholastic India, organised a book fair on November 23 and 24, 2017; at its premises. It proved to be a crowd puller as parents and family members of almost every child walked in to purchase books. The racks installed had a large variety of books, from which the parents and teachers selected books for children. Not only this, the kindergarteners too were presented with an opportunity to choose books of their choice. Towards the end of the event, the shelves seemed to be almost empty as the book fair witnessed huge purchases with an overwhelming response from parents. A short orientation session was also held, wherein parents were apprised of the importance of reading for preschoolers. They were requested to read before and with their children at home. Also, the parents were told that they should avoid keeping their child busy with cell phones and mobiles; and else present books and educational toys to children to keep them engaged. Gifting books act instrumental in helping a child be gifted indeed.
Content with the event organised, parents requested the school authorities to increase the frequency of holding such book fairs, just before they left the school premises.
