Poem recitation is an art of expression of thoughts and understanding towards English literature. A strong performance is one in which the meaning of the poem is powerfully and clearly conveyed to the audience. This was displayed beautifully by the Pre primary students, when they participated in English Recitation Competition, held at Staford School on 11th of October 2019.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation by the students who recited a plethora of poems with much zeal. The competition was held to make the students fluent in their vocabulary and understanding of words thereby improving their oratory skills.
These kinds of activities help the children to develop confidence and overcome stage fear. Children recited different poems with actions, gestures and lots of confidence. Children recited the poems like ‘Pussy cat, Bits of paper, Hot cross bun, Cobbler, Teapot, Once I caught a fish alive etc. The judgment criteria were introduction of the poem, fluency, voice modulation and expressions. It was an excellent opportunity for them to gain confidence through stage exposure. Everyone was amazed and spellbound after seeing their pleasing performances and the use of props added colour to their presentation.
