Collage Making Activity

8 Dec 2015

SIMG-20151122-WA0005taford School believes in learning with hands-on learning. To inculcate the habit of learning while doing things we as educators facilitate learning through various such means.

Collage making is expressing one’s own idea, trying new things, and experimenting with changing materials. It engages children’s senses in open-ended play and supports the development of cognitive, social-emotional and multisensory skills. As children progress into elementary school and beyond it continues to provide opportunities for brain development, mastery, self-esteem and creativity. The best way to develop learning through creativity is to provide a variety of materials, and give children time to create on their own, simply observe while they work, to provide additional supplies when needed and to allow the child to decide when the work is complete.

There was a collage making session from Class IV to VIII on their topics of learning in Social Studies. Class IV A and B went on making collage on Minerals- Metallic and Non-metallic and their uses. Right from pictures of a safety pin to aircraft, pencil to computers, rubber to cars went into the collages which was made house wise in both the sections. Class V was given the topic Means of Mass Communication and Personal Communication. The students had to collect the pictures of various means of personal and mass communication, segregate them according to their class and then make a collage. Class VI cashed on the Panchayat Elections held in Kakori for their learning under the topic Rural Administration. They held a mock Gram Panchayat meeting followed by preparing a collage on various canvassing material issued by prospective candidates having their election symbols and parties. It also cleared their concept on elections in Indian democratic set-up.

Class VII prepared collage on the topic Advertisements where they had to collect and segregate ads under social and commercial heads thereby giving them an insight on the objectives, messages conveyed and utility of the ads they come across in different media channels. Class VIII thoroughly enjoyed their collage making on the topic Civil and Criminal Cases in India in lesson Judiciary. They had to go through various newspapers and collect the cutting of various civil and criminal cases.
