The festival of Rakhi was celebrated on 20th of August by the students of classes Nursery to 1. According to the Hindu calendar, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Shravan. The festival signifies the bond of love between brothers and sisters.
A special assembly was organized on the occasion. The teachers used a power point presentation to explain the importance of the festival. Keeping in mind the significant values associated with the festival, the meaning of the word Raksha Bandhan was told to the children. The PPT explained that Raksha means “protection” and Bandhan means “bond,” therefore, Raksha Bandhan means “Bond of Protection.”
The children were also taught the customs and rituals associated with the festival. They were taught how to tie a Rakhi and the significance of a well decorated puja thali and all the customary things that go along with it. Back inside the class, the little ones indulged in a group activity of making bright and colourful Rakhis!
